Ginger is a widely loved ingredient in Asian drinks and dishes like ginger ale, ginger tea, and candies. It adds a unique fragrance to both sweet and savory foods and gives a pleasant spicy ‘kick’.

Dried ginger is just fresh ginger which has undergone drying processing. The fresh rhizomes are soaked in water overnight, after which the outer peel is removed, they are washed again and later sun-dried. When this dry ginger is powdered in a mixer, we get a white powder, which has a strong aroma and pungent flavor.

Many people love the essence of ginger in various dishes, but they don’t realize its numerous health benefits:

  1. Improved Digestion:

Gingerol is a natural component of ginger root that benefits gastrointestinal motility ― the rate at which food exits the stomach and continues along the digestive process. Dry ginger also relieves pain and discomfort in the stomach caused by indigestion. Hence, consuming one to two grams of dry ginger powder before a meal can speed up the digestion process by 50 per cent.

  1. Weight loss:

As dry ginger improves digestion, it helps in burning stored fat and processing glucose in the blood. Thanks to its thermogenic properties, it also speeds up metabolism. Another benefit of dry ginger is its ability to curb hunger and overeating.

  1. Lowers cholesterol:

Research has proven that dry ginger helps to reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels. After a trial period of 45 days, people recorded impressive reductions in cholesterol levels when they consumed around three grams of dry ginger powder per day.

  1. Lowers blood sugar:

By consuming up to two grams of ginger powder mixed in warm water with a pinch of salt, high blood sugar levels are reduced in the body. This method is more effective when practiced in the morning, on an empty stomach.

  1. Reduces inflammation:

If you’re struggling with swollen joints and fingers, taking dry ginger mixed with salt can help in reducing inflammation. It also offers relief from inflammation caused by injuries.

  1. Relieves menstrual pain:

Although dry ginger is used to get relief from various aches and pains, it is essentially used to relieve menstrual pain. A study conducted on 150 women suffering from menstrual pain showed considerable improvement when they consumed one gram of dry ginger powder per day, during the first three days of their cycles.

  1. Defeats nausea and morning sickness:

Dry ginger is also useful in negating the symptoms of nausea and morning sickness in pregnant women. Consuming even half a teaspoon of dry ginger powder mixed with honey and warm water offers quick relief to those suffering from these symptoms.
